Internet Safety Lessons:

The following link would be a great introduction to the importance of web safety. It is a series of short videos created by Disney, featuring the cast of many of their shows, that gives some thought on Web Safety isssues. There are also a few ideas of how you can expand on their videos. Not a full lesson, but a really great way to introduce the topic to your students.

This website providess a fun, interactive lesson that looks like a game and teaches many important web safety topics. There are 14 lessons that cover many different topics from internet to netiquette to cell phones. One lesson even covers internet research tips. There is a downloadable teachers guide with printouts to use in class. This would be a really great way to cover it all! I am going to use this with my class at the beginning of the year to cover all the necessary topics. I think it will be a great way to ease into the school year and start off teaching with out over burdening the kids with a ton of new information. I never start all subjects right away and this will be a great series of lessons to use over the first few weeks of school while teaching classroom routines and expectations.

Parents
Informing parents about web safety and how to handle the issue with their children is also very important, since they are likely not as well monitored at home. Sharing the following video with parents would be a great way to help them continue the effort at home:
